Objectives:

The research and development of the university focuses on theory as much as on practice. The university hires researchers with Ph.D. or master’s degrees and with practical working experiences. Since the school has been upgraded from a junior college all the way to technological university, its faculty members have been deeply involved in research and development. The number of their engagements in the research projects sponsored by the National Science Council, various government sectors, and public as well as private enterprises has doubled. Besides, their research results have been widely applied in the industries.

Research is a major component of life within the National Taipei University of Technology. The conduct of research is essential to educate both graduate and undergraduate students with up-to-date science and engineering technology, and to keep the faculty at the cutting edge of their fields.

Research activity in the National Taipei University of Technology is significant and growing rapidly. Research expenditures in the university are in excess of NT$3.3 billion in 2003 and increase at about 10 percent rate annually.

Many of these research projects are carried out under the direction of an individual faculty member, but more often now they are conducted in an interdisciplinary fashion by a team of researchers or may be part of a research center.

Recently, research papers are increasing and published in the journals of Science Citation Index (SCI) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). Brief overviews of the research being conducted are provided in the following figures in terms of various research funding sources.

Job placement services:

Students learn to apply their knowledge and academic theories by engaging in experiments practically at school. In addition, to assist students of different departments in practicing their skills, the university enables students to work as interns in allied companies and industries, and positively arrange programs for students to visit and get known of enterprises. The result of a survey conducted by common wealth magazines indicates that the graduates of Taipei Tech have been evaluated by 1000 of large companies in Taiwan as the favorite of employment. The alumni are holding significant position in various enterprises. Manipulating these advantages well, students are able to understand the companies further by the counseling service, speech or other helpful activities hold by those companies. Moreover, the websites and the commercials designed by those enterprises allow the students to get more information and opportunities to broaden their horizon and help them to apply jobs.

As a long-standing school, more than eighty thousand alumni had graduated from Taipei Tech, they organized the clubs for themselves not only in Taiwan but overseas as well. Also, to better the connection among alumni, we established a particular organization in Taipei Tech to offer services of connections between the school and alumni. The aim of this organization is focused on preaching the main faith of the leaders of the school, and assisting the graduated alumni in applying jobs, scholarships and continuing their study. The complete list of alumni for connection is formed as well. Every November, on the school’s day, the school would elect the remarkable alumni and also support the clubs new founded and the related activities financially. Each club would represent one person as a guest to participate in this big event. We hope and encourage every alumnus to experience every important moment for business field with school together. Principal often visit those great alumni, along with the top leaders of school. Besides, raising funds for the construct the campus is also one of the main works of this organization.

National Taipei Universtiy of Technology  Foundation

Derivation:

With the same longevity with our country, our school has pursued prominence, glorified our honorable tradition, and taken our responsibility as a technological university should have done in educational development. However, we have deeply felt that it would be hard to encourage all school faculty and students striving ahead to accomplish our goal if there is no foundation to support us. Although in recent years, we have received a lot of feedback from alumni, yet it is still hard to achieve the expected results.

As a result, organizing an ideal foundation has become an important goal for our school to work for. The idea of the foundation was initiated in 1985 when a student of our school had an accident and was killed in front of the Lai Lai hotel on his way to school. The student’s family was impoverished, but by having appreciated the cultivation that our school made to their loved son, the victim’s parents donated NT$500 thousand plus another NT$500 thousand compensated by the hotel, totaling NT$1 million, to establish the scholarship fund to commemorate their son, and asked our school to take care of this scholarship fund. As is the case, our school decided to organize a culture and education foundation regulated by the Ministry of Education to integrate the similar scholarships and donations. With the joint efforts from school teachers and alumni, the Board of directors for the first culture and education foundation comprising of the school master, and representatives of alumni, parents of students and school faculty, was finally established on June 2, 1987. It was reported to the Ministry of Education on April 21, 1989 for approval of establishment and on May 18 of the same year, its court registering was accomplished with an official appellation as “the Culture and Education Foundation of National Taipei Industrial Junior College”. To match with the school’s change of its system, the foundation changed its name accordingly as “the Culture and Education Foundation of National Taipei Technical College ” in 1994. In 1998, the foundation’s name has changed again as “the Culture and Education Foundation of National Taipei Technological University” in accordance with the change of the school’s name.

With the great anticipation to the foundation, we will promote a compassionate, righteous and ethical campus culture, and facilitate to develop the school with the conviction of sustainable operation.

The operation of the
Taipei Tech Foundation:

1. Select excellent and qualified students to impart the scholarship.
2. Subsidize for specific case studies, presentations of disquisition, and publishing of writings.
3. Subsidize school faculty for the costs they spend on participations of important academic meetings and promotions of academic exchanges, cooperation, teaching, fact-finding visits, and professor exchanges either in Taiwan or abroad.
4. Assist in cooperating with other circles, accepting donations to establish a practice and teaching cooperative fund, conducting researches and accepting training consignments.

Note: The fund established in the foundation was NT$1,250,340 donated by enterprises, alumni, students, parents of students and school faculty. Afterwards, through fund raising and donations from enthusiastic people, the fund has grown year after year. The budget used for scholarships or subsidies mainly comes from the interest accrued from the original fund.
